Information On Golf Course Construction

By Catherine Bell

Golf courses are massive landscapes that involve numerous steps to construct them successfully. May factors need to be kept in mind to avoid complications at later stages of the project. The fist factor one should think about is financial feasibility of a golf course construction project. An analysis should be done on the project to determine if it is feasible both technically and financially. Large projects involve assignment of entire teams to do analysis before the project can be started.

The next step is selection of the architect to do the job. There are many architects out there, but selecting one that will do a great job can be a challenge. In the United States, one should choose an architect who is a member of the ASGCA. ASGCA ensures that there members have the right qualifications and are properly licensed.

The next step involves selecting the appropriate site for constructing the course. All sites can always result in beautiful courses, the main difference lies in the cost and amount of time needed to achieve the results. Choosing a financially viable site is always advisable. This is necessary for keeping costs down and ensuring that good results are achieved as soon as possible.

Expertise from different fields is needed to construct a course for golf. Thus, experts from various fields have to work together and collaborate on various activities to achieve the goal. The final appearance of the site is planned from the beginning. Once planning has been completed, each activity is assigned a level of priority and scheduled for being undertaken. Work is assigned to various experts according to their field of specialization. However, all tasks are monitored and managed centrally to ensure uniformity and conformity to standards.

No project can be started if necessary land entitlements are not available. Land entitlements provide the necessary approval for the project to proceed and failure to obtain them will likely cause problems with various authorities. It is advisable to confirm with relevant authorities concerning the documents needed for the project. Stagnation can be avoided by ensuring that finances needed are easily accessible.

The planning phase usually results in many drawings and similar documents. These documents are meant for various team members and key decision members, some of which may not have any technical knowhow in construction drawings. As such, it is important to ensure that the drawings, charts and other similar documents are simple to understand to avoid confusion. The intent of each document should be easy to understand.

Since many steps are involved in this activity, it is important to ensure that finances are tracked and proper financial records are maintained. The budget should be made in such a way that it exceeds the approximated total cost. This is necessary in order to take care of cost variations and inflation since the project may take several months or years to complete.

Lastly, one should set aside the finances to be used for maintenance after construction work is complete. Maintenance is also an important aspect that should be kept in mind when constructing. Enough money in the budget should be assigned to this task during planning.
